OUR MATERIALS
Sustainability and doing our bit wherever we can
We think it is important to do all we can to protect and sustain our environments and that small changes make a difference. This isn’t just wording its actions and we encourage everyone here to observe and consciously think about all our actions in our business, from simple things like only having lights on when you need to and turning off machines on standby, to bigger projects like our sustainable yet stylish packaging. If we all consciously do our bit this makes a huge collaborative difference. Where we can make a difference, we do and are committed to our continued improvement. To this end we are part of the Shift movement formally We are what we do. We have an action tracker http://www.actiontracker.org.uk/ and you can be part of it too, there are some great materials to help you make a difference too. You can download materials from here: http://www.actiontracker.org.uk/pages/useful_resources/
We use sustainable packaging to send out our garments to customers, to transport our garments and use the most sustainable way to get those garments to customers. We hope that when you receive your garments from us you will dispose of the packaging responsibly, maybe upcycle it or even keep it to store something in, they are pretty boxes after all!
We have removed all single use plastics from our packaging, we use recycled where we need to use plastic and cotton bags with drawstrings elsewhere, these are good for upcycling or storage too.
All our materials are from sustainable suppliers and frequently artisans who have the attention to detail and passion for what they are making.
When we thought about writing this, we said, how can we say sustainable with our leather materials? There are many fashion brands who just say nothing and many brands that choose to sell only vegan non animal based products. From our point of view we don’t want to be hypocrites we (most of us) eat meat and believe wearing leather is a choice. We are free to choose whether or not we do either? For a millennia human beings have worn animal skins and we have evolved those garments to those we see today. We have gone to great lengths to ensure that the leather we use is from sustainable high-welfare farms, using traditional tanning methods which does not harm the environment. We have searched for other non-animal-based materials that are like leather, nothing so far has made the grade, or we feel will last. We are committed to searching for alternative materials and when we do find one that we feel will work we will design garments using them too. We realise our leather jackets and clothing are an investment and we want them to last. When good quality leather garments age they do so well and will serve you for many years to come.
